X Money Is Now Rolling Out To U.S. Premium and Premium+ Subscribers

X Money and the X Card represent X’s major push into financial services, embedding banking-like tools, peer-to-peer payments, and a Visa debit card directly into the social platform. Launched more widely to U.S. Premium and Premium+ subscribers starting July 27, 2026, the service advances Elon Musk’s long-stated goal of turning X into an “everything app”.

X Money is not a standalone bank. X Payments LLC operates as a fintech platform, with banking services provided by Cross River Bank. Users access a deposit/stored-value account, instant transfers, bill pay options, and the X Card entirely inside the X app.

Eligibility and Availability

Access is limited to U.S. users with an active X Premium or Premium+ subscription. The service began as an invite-only beta earlier in 2026 and expanded to Premium/Premium+ subscribers in a phased U.S. rollout. Availability depends on regulatory clearances and continues to expand. New users may receive a small welcome bonus reported as $15 in some recent X posts.

Premium+ subscribers receive the top interest rate automatically. Standard Premium subscribers can reach the same rate once they meet the qualifying direct-deposit requirements.

Deposit Account and Interest

Users hold balances in a deposit account that earns interest. The headline rate is up to 6.00% APY. This is substantially higher than the national average savings rate. Interest is calculated daily and paid monthly. No minimum balance is required for the base features in available descriptions.

Funds are held at Cross River Bank and automatically enrolled in a cash sweep program. This provides standard FDIC insurance up to $250,000 per depositor at Cross River, with potential aggregate coverage up to $10 million across a network of participating FDIC-insured banks, subject to program conditions and limits. X Payments LLC itself is not an FDIC-insured bank; insurance applies only in the event of an insured bank’s failure.

Peer-to-Peer Payments

Users can send, receive, or request money instantly from other X users via their handles. Transfers within X are free and have no stated transaction limits in the core offering. This functions similarly to Venmo or Cash App but stays inside the social feed and messaging experience.

The X Card (Visa Debit)

A virtual X Card is issued automatically upon signup and can be added to Apple Wallet (Apple Pay) and digital wallets such as Google Pay for contactless payments. Users can also order a physical metal Visa debit card. The physical card is customizable: users can choose how their name appears and whether to include their X username.

Key card benefits include:

  • 3% cash back on eligible purchases (certain merchant categories and transaction types are excluded; full terms apply).
  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • Free ATM withdrawals worldwide (out-of-network fees are reimbursed under the program’s terms, typically within a few days).
  • Accepted anywhere Visa is accepted.
  • Cash-back rewards appear in the Money section of the app.

Direct Deposit and Early Pay

Users can set up direct deposit of paychecks or other recurring deposits. Eligible users may access funds up to two days earlier than a traditional bank’s posting schedule.

Additional Payment Tools

The platform supports bill pay, domestic wire transfers, mailing physical checks (with tracking), and standard ACH movements. Instant withdrawals to an external debit card carry a fee commonly cited at around 1.75% with a small minimum. Standard ACH withdrawals are free.

Security and Controls

X emphasizes passkey-based authentication instead of traditional passwords, custom transaction limits, additional verification options for selected payments, and Visa’s fraud/risk tools on the card side. Dedicated support is available, described as 24/7 in official materials.

How It Fits the “Everything App” Vision

Musk has repeatedly framed payments as essential to X’s future, drawing from his earlier experience founding X.com. The product allows users to keep social activity, messaging, content, and money movement in one place, send money while discussing a topic, receive creator payouts, or manage everyday spending without switching apps. It positions X against established players such as Venmo, Cash App, traditional banks, and high-yield savings products.

Practical Considerations

  • Rates are variable and can change. The 6% APY is a competitive launch rate intended to drive adoption.
  • Fees exist on certain instant external moves and physical card replacements; core P2P and many everyday uses are free.
  • Limits apply to wires, checks, ATM cash, and some funding methods (daily and monthly caps are disclosed in the app and terms).
  • Regulatory and partnership structure means users should review the Stored Value Account Terms, cardholder agreement, interest addendum, and cash-sweep details carefully. Deposits are not held by X itself.
  • Currently U.S.-only and subscription-gated. International expansion and broader access would require additional licenses and partnerships.
X Money combines a high-yield deposit account, social-native payments, and a rewards-focused Visa debit card into the existing X experience. For Premium and Premium+ users in the United States, it offers a convenient way to earn competitive interest, move money quickly among contacts, and spend with cash-back benefits, all without leaving the app. As with any financial product, users should evaluate the terms, insurance structure, and their own needs against traditional banking options. Full details, current rates, and enrollment are available inside the X app and at money.x.com.
